Welcome to Team Karate Centers
|
For 26 years this martial arts school has been coaching people, of all ages, in the process of learning and practicing the martial arts as a
tool for learning and practicing the art of being a more complete,
proactive, and empowered human being.
There is one thing stronger than all the armies in the world, and that is an idea whose time has come.

We consider ourselves an integral "part of the village" that helps
parents instill valuable character traits, beliefs, and habits in
their children, such as: self-discipline, the ability to stay calm
under pressure, the appreciation of teachers, parents, and other
mentors, and the importance of proper diet, exercise, and education in
a happy and fulfilling life.
For thousands of adult and teens, we have been - and continue
to be - a place to refuel, recharge, and remember the value of keeping
one's body fit, to keep the mind and the spirit fit. We teach a brand
of self-defense that transcends the block, kick, punch, and throw - and
includes the self-defense skills of kindness, empathy, community, and
compassion.
You are cordially invited to visit and/or be a part of this school, if
you are looking for something fun and extraordinarily engaging,
interesting, and life-enhancing. We are masters of making it easy to
get started. We are experts at making the learning fun and exciting.
And we are committed to being role models of honesty, customer
service, and good old fashioned value.
Welcome!

What Makes Us Different?
At TKC, we study and practice the martial arts with the intention of improving our own lives and not just physically, but in everything we do, and with everything (and everyone) we love and care for. We see this goal as a very authentic and relevant approach to personal "self-defense."
We start studying and practicing in our studio, but it doesn't end there, as our quest is to take our training "out of the studio and into the world." To see how our instructor and our students are doing just that, please visit our studio's Project Portfolio.
At TKC our curriculum goes beyond physical techniques, often including interesting writing and/or filmmaking projects, project-based leadership training, community service, and familiarity with methods of peaceful conflict resolution. As students progress they're certainly challenged physically, but the martial arts, like life, is so much more than just technique. If you're looking for something wonderfully creative, exciting, steeped in tradition, but relevant to the here and now, please come visit us! We are humbly and gratefully accepting new students!
More than any other sport, Karate gives our
children the chance to explore their
innate powers. Marvel as they increase in strength, flexibility, endurance,
balance, and harmony. This is only the start. Physical skills act as a
foundation for something much more important: the development of value skills,
both mental and spiritual.

TKC incorporates a combination of techniques and principles from a variety of
Martial Arts styles, including Hapkido, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Tae
Kwon Do, Kali, Kobudo, Wing Chun and weapons, all of which provides our students
with a well-balanced, "streetsmart" self-defense system. Most other styles of
martial arts tend to focus on just individual areas of self-defense. Combining
the best of many styles into a blended system, gives TKC students the advantage
they need to protect themselves in virtually any situation.

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man."

Obvious and hidden benefits...
that's what the long-term study of the martial arts
offers you. Like an onion, there are many layers of
practice, of understanding, of self-exploration;
many layers of benefits that only reveal themselves
through consistent and regular practice.
Obviously, training makes your body function better,
look better, and feel better. Behind the obvious is the
neurological and psychological benefits; your brain works
better, your emotional control improves, as does your
connection to people with similar motivations and interests.
Obviously, studying the martial arts helps you sharpen
the physical tools of personal protection. The person
who has practiced 10,000 blocks and 10,000 counter-attacks
has an edge in any physical conflict. But less than
obvious is the way that the practice protects you from
some of the most dangerous enemies in today's world:
lethargy, negative thinking, lack of adequate exercise,
apathy, indifference, anger, and stress.
"Throughout my day I am charged. I'm charged with
the responsibility of earning income, of service to others,
of what I must do tomorrow, and the management of
what feels like a thousand responsibilities. When I get
on the mat, I feel a release of that 'charge,' I get
grounded, and the complexity of the world disappears.
I'd say my time studying the martial arts is some of
the best time I invest in myself."
--Ed Pullin, age 37, three years of martial arts training
In Dicken's famous novel, A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer
Scrooge is taken into his future -and as a result he
comes back to the present with a compelling need to
wake up and change. If you could venture into the
future and see the benefits that await you from the
study of the martial arts, you would come back today
and enroll in the longest program we offer.
Better health, fitness, mental and emotional clarity,
and many, many friendships and experiences await you.
