My 1st Degree Black Belt:

My name is Arthur and I am 15 years old. I started Karate in 2003 when I was 9 years old. I started karate for two reasons. The first one was because my older brother had done it when he was much younger than I am today. The other reason is that my mom wanted me to do a sport that would give me strong moral and spiritual values, help me grow physically strong, and that would help me focus on the issues in front of me. Today I am proud or having accomplished these goals. However, I continue to train because I am still very young and have much to learn and grow on. I always liked to come to classes because I liked the instructors and the kids. I made new friends right away. My first instructors were Mr. Shervin and Ms. Erin. At first I was coming to class only twice a week and now I am here six days a week. My dojo has become my second home. The teachers and students have become my family. I am forever grateful to Mr. Fariborz for creating such a great school and for giving me the opportunity of being one of his students. He and his instructors have thought me not only Karate but also how I should live my life. I am learning about honor, loyalty, hard work, devotion, family values, respect and much more. This journey has brought and continues to bring me much joy. I am happy and confident. Once I become a Black Belt I will continue to train, for myself and for others. I want to teach others what I have learned. I want to continue to learn. Recently my mom started training too. She wanted to show me her support by really being part of what I am doing. I want to be here for her. I want to give her her Black Belt. I am also very grateful to my dad, my brother and friends for being supportive of my goals.

My Essays

I feel that I deserve a Black Belt because I have been a Karate student for 5 years. I work very hard at getting the Black Belt by going to several classes a week. I usually attend classes five times a week. This is in addition to my school work, Boys Scout activities and family activities. I set out to accomplish what I want to do. I enjoy karate very much. I enjoy working with the other students and instructors. Earning my karate belts gets me closer to achieving my goal of getting a Black Belt.
Having a Black Belt is something I would have all my life. There is nothing that will stop me from getting my Black Belt. I want to an Eagle Scout but right now, karate is more important. It takes priority.

A Black Belt is something really great to get. It means getting something that I have wanted and worked very long and hard. I started as a white belt. I had no clue what karate meant to me then. As I earned by various belts, I learned that there is much more to karate than fighting. I have learned to focus, to pay attention and to remember many things at the same time. I have learned respect for others and for myself. I have learned discipline. I stopped drinking sodas and starting eating better.
I would be proud to have a Black Belt for a couple of reasons: My brother is an Eagle Scout. It was hard for him to get this and it took a long time. I would like to show my brother that I can do something that takes time too. A Black Belt would be good for me because it develops more focus and helps me concentrate on things much better. Karate teaches me to respect other people and to be polite. This is also similar to what Boy Scouts teaches. All these things will help me in my life with other people when I get a job.

My Letters of Recommendations

Dear Master Fariborz,
I am writing this letter to you to recommend my son, Arthur Parr, to continue studying to secure his Black Belt in Karate with you at your school. Arthur has been a student of yours for the past five years. He is very dedicated in achieving his goals. I personally assist in taking him to classes whenever I can. He has made this a high priority in his life, second only to his family.
What Arthur has learned and how he has developed as a young adult in your center is unbelievable. He is very proud of what he has accomplished and is excited about getting his Black Belt.
I urge you to please continue what you have been doing all along and you will have one dedicated, well developed Black Belt to add to the many Black Belt graduates you have. Please take him there and may God bless you and your family.
Best regards with the most appreciation!
William Parr

Dear Mr. Fariborz,
I would like to recommend that my son Arthur Parr be allowed the opportunity of getting his Black Belt. Arthur has been training with you since 2003 when he was only 11 years old. For the first couple of years, I had to remind and nudge him to come to classes. However, for the last 24 to 30 months, he has much matured and taken a huge ownership and responsibility for this daily training. He will not allow anything to stand in the way of his classes with you personally. Arthur is now 14 years old. He takes it upon himself to take the city bus to TKC every day and makes it a point of getting to TKC with plenty of time before a class starts. I believe that Karate training and eventually teaching will be part of Arthurs whole life. He expresses the desire to teach and to be of help to others.
The physical development and emotional growth that TKC has been instrumental in helping Arthur achieve, is overwhelming. As his mom, I am eternally grateful to you, to your devoted teachers and students for allowing us to be part of your family and you all to be part of our family.
Sincerely,
Gizelda Parr

Dear Master Fariborz:
The purpose of this letter is to recommend my student, Arthur Parr, to your Black Belt program. I have known Arthur since 4th grade and he has proven to be studious, disciplined, respectful, friendly and has made exponential progress throughout the years.
Once I became aware that Arthur had been a karate student, then I understood where a lot of Arthurs traits were coming from. He is a great student and I am proud of him.
Best Regards,
Frank
